“When I learned there was finally a month dedicated to the mental health of educators, I felt seen for the first time in my career. It reminded me that what we do matters, but who we are matters just as much.”

G. Payed- Teacher

—J. Alvarez, Elementary School Principal

“Knowing that Dr. Webb helped create this month makes it even more meaningful. She has supported my own mental health journey, and I know how deeply she believes in giving educators the space to breathe and be human.”

—T. Johnson, School Counselor

“I feel proud to be part of a profession that is finally starting to talk openly about mental health. It gives me hope that change is possible.”

- A. Billie, Teacher

The Story

What began as one educator’s personal journey through burnout has grown into a movement for change. After more than twenty-five years in education, Dr. Shamira Webb recognized that the emotional toll on educators was being quietly carried behind the scenes. Her advocacy led to a historic proclamation signed by the Governor of Georgia, making it the first state in the nation to officially recognize Educator Mental Health Awareness Month. That moment ignited a national conversation, proving that educator wellness deserves more than one week in the spring. It deserves ongoing attention, reflection, and renewal.

The Mission

The mission of Educator Mental Health Awareness Month is to create intentional spaces where educators are seen, supported, and celebrated. Our goal is to make educator well-being a shared and sustained priority, not a short-term initiative. Across schools, districts, and school boards, leaders are beginning to have the tough but necessary conversations about the state of educator mental health and wellness. Through awareness, advocacy, and action, this movement is redefining what it means to be well in education
